CONTACT offers two 50-hour training sessions each year. Volunteers learn counseling and listening skills used in dealing with critical human issues. The intensive training has been created to give volunteers the tools needed to effectively handle crisis situations. It also helps volunteers to understand and manage relationships and problems in their own lives. Topics included in the training program include marriage and family conflict, loneliness and grief, depression and suicide, substance abuse, sexuality, and numerous other areas of concern. In addition, volunteers are introduced to the agencies and resources available in our community so that they can confidently recommend the appropriate assistance for callers. Training classes are taught by a combination of area professionals and CONTACT personnel, and are frequently used as sources of training for members of other social agencies.
